What day is it again?

WIP Wednesday okay, so it's Thursday and I've missed my link up to The Needle and Thread Network, but go check out those that posted on time!

I'm still in the" I should be organizing, but I'm just too distracted" mode.  This week, instead of putting fabric away, I decided that I really, really needed to try out that idea I had for a Christmas tree skirt.  Yup, I'm thinking Christmas ;)

The idea was to make diamonds, and then to border them in different sizes so that I could then cut the tree hole without impacting the feature fabric diamonds themselves.  yeah.  Well, I'm not much for making detailed, scale drawings, preferring to dive right in.  Gotta say, I really like how it turned out, so far, but this is not going to be a tree skirt!  note to self - start with smaller diamonds for tree skirt - 6" strips result in a centre star that is 56" across

I've decided that I need a new Christmas quilt for the bed, but being the dive right in kinda gal I am, I now have to go shopping for more red and black fabric.

Today was a good mail day!  I received my first order of Wonderfil Thread  and I am really looking forward to some FMQ playtime!
a nice variety

oooo! Holographic!

I am so looking forward to trying out the various types - I've got some Konfetti, Invisafil, DecoBob, Metallic and some holographic, and now I've got my Thread charts so I can order with knowledge next time!

Happy, happy quilting!

Yeah, I can relate to your post title... I love what has become of your tree skirt idea turned bed cover. I have never done diamonds yet. Looks like a good time! Thanks for the link to the WonderFil Threads. Gotta check that one out!

Glad you're having fun with a new set of sewing adventures! As you experiment with the threads, maybe you could do a series of blog entries? I've only figured out in the past couple of years or so that not all threads are created equal, so I'd love to know your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of different kinds of thread for FMQ.

It sure feels like Christmas here in Manitoba. brrrrrr! I've not been doing too much sewing so I haven't been linking. When I do I'll be ready to experiment with different threads. Thread charts are a great idea.

Your tree skirt that morphed into a bed covering is a beauty. I am glad that you are going bigger with it, I could never cut it to go around a tree.
