Welcome to my world where I try to figure out what I'm going to do next! These days, it is mostly quilting, but you never know what it might be... come find out with me!

time for a fresh start

new year and anything and everything seems possible!  It may even be possible that I will post more frequently than once every two months!  Possible?  yes!  Probable?  no guarantees!

A very quick look back at 2013 - it was a year of challenges - participating in challenges, at least.  It seems the majority of projects I completed in '13 were in response to challenges.  Good thing I like a challenge!  If it wasn't a challenge, I was practicing freemotion quilting by making baby quilts - some for co-workers but the majority were donation quilts.  No large quilts, but that will change in 2014!

My highlight of the year was winning an Excellence in Domestic Machine Quilting ribbon and the Canadian Quilters' Association National Juried Show for my Flowers for Cynthia.

For the last few moths I've been busy working on a special quilt for Christ Church Cathedral's  125th Anniversary.  A friend of mine is co-curating a permanent quilt installation - "Common Threads Indigo Quilt Project".  Far too much fun to miss the opportunity to participate!  Quilt panels are being made to go on all the walls of the Cathedral's Hall.  Everyone was to use indigo dyed fabrics - done in a couple of all day workshops - fun! with a few Kona solids thrown in for good measure.  There is a wonderful red stripe that goes all around the room.  We were given some guidelines in terms of general colour placement based on which wall you were working on, but the only fixed item was the placement of the red slash - in order for it to appear continuous, you had to to have it in the right place.
My panel is on the Fraser Valley wall - should be dark on the bottom, getting lighter as you go up the panel.

Here's the bottom section - to me it represents the city.

The middle section, which is the valley farmlands

and then the sun shining over it

My red slash just reminded me of a fish, so that's what it became!

Urban Sprawl

The quilts will be installed within the next month or so, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them all up!

 Happy quilting!
