Welcome to my world where I try to figure out what I'm going to do next! These days, it is mostly quilting, but you never know what it might be... come find out with me!

Do you collaborate?

If you don't, you should try it - it can be a lot of fun!  A couple of weekends ago I was working on the quilting for a collaborative quilt some of us from the VMQG were making for a fellow member, to welcome her first child.  We presented the quilt to her on Thursday at the meeting, and it was very well received.
One of the members, Amy (Crafty Dame), came up with the design, several more members pieced blocks (in fact we ended up with enough blocks for two quilts), Amy pieced the top, and  Laurraine (Patchwork Pottery) pieced the back and sandwiched it and handed it off to me.
I quilted it up, outlining all the stars with matching thread,

and doing some echo quilting inside the stars,
then flipped it over and with grey in the bobbin and a rainbow variegated thread on top, stitched sweeping curves and a sprinkling of stars from the back,
closeup thread on back
Rainbow thread, stitched from the back, to add some subtle colour to the back of the quilt
         Stars back

jumping over the the pieced stars so they didn't end up with grey stitching through them.  I was very please with how it turned out, even though there wasn't a feather in it!
Wonky Stars 2

I handed it back to Laurraine who did a wonderful job of binding it in rainbow colours and inserted 3D star points to mimic the wonky stars.  Pop over to Laurraine's blog to see the amazing result.

I'm working on another collaborative quilt, too.  We're doing a Round Robin at my other guild, BMQG, and we're down to the last border!  It is pretty exciting knowing I'm going to be getting my quilt back at our next meeting!
start of a round robin
this was my starting off block, way back in September - can't wait to see how it looks now!
I have had such a lot of fun working on everyone else's quilts - adding borders as directed by our fearless leader Brigitte - some of them have presented some challenges, but all in all it was a fabulous experience!

Stay tuned - there will be another post tomorrow  - it's reveal day for the Balance theme in the Tangled Textiles group!

Happy quilting!

I haven't collaborated in a while. The star quilt with the lovely stars has some inspiring quilting on it. Good job.

What a wonderful job on the quilting. Who would have thunk it? Turning over the quilt and quilting from the back side. Love it.

PS Yup! you get your RR back on March 30.

I don't think a round robin would ever happen at our group. It's hard enough to put a raffle quilt together and agree on it, lol
