It's been a beautiful day!

The sun is shining, the temperatures are warm (approaching hot!) I still haven't done any gardening cleanup, but we did make some good headway on getting the deck usable!  I even got a bit of stitching in.
Seeing as I'm going to be a first time grandma come August, I figure it is only proper that I make my new grandchild a quilt. (or two or three or...)  I got started on this one last Saturday, finished the top earlier this week, and have picked out my backing and binding.  Now to get it sandwiched and quilted!

hmmm - the colours are a little brighter than this - especially the green

Last night I was in the mood to just sew, but didn't want to start something big, and seeing as I have two block challenges, that is what I decided to work on.
Both of them will be shown at the next VMQG meeting in a couple of weeks time.  The first one I worked on is my possible entry into the QuiltCon  Block Challenge.  At the May VMQG meeting they had put together small sample packs of the Kona colours that make up the QuiltCon logo.  I grabbed one that had pieces that were about 2"x6", and that is what I used for my block.  I like how it has come together, and represents my idea of modern quilting - a traditional pattern - a Dresden Plate - done a little differently, and with lots of white space - clean and bright.  Works for me!

I like this so much I'm thinking of making a full size quilt along these lines!

The second challenge, which I worked on this morning was along the same lines as the QuiltCon block Challenge, just using the colours from the VMQG logo.  Lucky for me, I had received a little packet of fabric in the right colours to do a paper pieced version of the logo, and pulled them out to use here.  (I will have to pick up some more fabric to do the logo up, as I have an idea of how I want to use that block, but going fabric shopping is never an issue, is it??!!)  I like how this one has turned out, too! Although you'd never know it from this picture :(

I hope you've been having a fun weekend, relaxing or getting lots of good stuff done!

Happy quilting!

  4. The Dresden Plate looks scrumptious. I'd sure like to know how you pieced it. I have some scraps that this would work for.

Oh and that baby quilt, how cute is that? What a lucky grandchild.
