a week

edit:  Welcome to everyone who is popping by From Holly's Red Bike as part of Blogathon Canada 2013 sponsored by Sew Sisters Quilt Shop - so nice of you to stop by!  Don't forget to register for the giveaway over on Holly's blog, and check out Heather's blog, Winding Bobbins, as well!

Wow!  Just one week ago I was off relaxing, laughing, sewing and having fun.  The retreat at Loon Lake, hosted by the wonderful Krista / Poppyprint was fabulous.  Thank you Krista!  It was so nice to see folks from last year and to meet some new people.

There may have been a little bit of this involved

but that only added to the laughter and creativity.

Lots of Christmas-y scrappy trip blocks were made by participants for the block lottery - which, wonderfully, was won by Krista herself - the look on her face when she realized she was the winner was fabulous!

This was my view for a good part of the weekend - wish it was my view everyday, although I may not get much work done if it was!

While I had big plans to get a lot of quilting done, I ran into a few frustrations with thread shredding, so had to change gears a bit.  Still had a very productive weekend and got the following done:

Cotton couture challenge
Cotton Couture challenge - VMQG
challenge2
I like the 3D affect of this pattern - have always wanted to make one, another thing off my bucket list!

needlebook swap
Needlebook for swap with VMQG
preemie quilt from an orphan block
donation quilt from an orphan block
orphanblock2
centre quilting
orphanblock3
border quilting
hmmm - seem to have missed taking photos of one of the items - fodder for my next post!

It was a wonderful weekend - can't wait to do it again!

Happy quilting!

  5. You certainly have been busy, so much done, even with the wine and the view. I love the way that the coloured squares really do seem to float off the surface.

You really got a LOT done. I love the 3D quilt. Whenever I see one I think I must try to do one. Yours really seems to float.
The needlecase is beautiful. I need a pretty one for sure.

  18. Hi Janet.

I am Pam from the retreat that's always bugging you about how to improve my machine quilting!

This week my husband watched the YouTube video about making a quilting table from styrofoam sheets. He bought a couple of 2 inch pieces to add to the couple 1 1/2 inch pieces he had and hopefully I will have a table soon. It looks like a pretty good system actually. Thanks so much for your advise - and help! I think I may just get the Sew Ezi table one day but this is a good start. I will have to try to update my blog with some pictures with it one day! I will let you know how it works ;)).

    Pam.
