On the road!

The piece I created for the CQA It's Time for Colour! travelling show is now being exhibited at Satin Moon Quilt Shop in Victoria, along with all the other quilts that have been received.

It will be there for the next two weeks before continuing on its journey. If you can't make it to Victoria to see the exhibit,  all the quilts in the travelling show can be seen in a gallery page that is now up on the CQA website - you can check them out here, and see whether the quilt you are interested in is still available for purchase :)  Remember - its for a good purpose - The Children's Wish Foundation.

I said in my last post that I had a finish to show - instead of working on UFOs that have been hanging around - in some cases for years - I was captivated by 6 little improv pieced squares that were sitting around - I showed you them here and here.  Now, it is a finished quilt.  I like it when I can say that!

insanity

I do have a habit of leaving things to the last minute. I must really like the pressure of working to deadlines. This time, while it may not actually be the last minute yet, I just finished the quilt top yesterday for the quilt that I want to submit to CQA's National Juried show this year.  The quilt has to be finished and pictures taken for my entry which is due February 1 - that gives me 19 days to get it done, between work and life.

the top includes a number of these

Did I mention that it's 86" square and I'm quilting it on my DSM?  I did get it sandwiched today and will be starting on the quilting.  Wish me luck!

Flowers in the Cathedral

I just got back from my LQS - The Needle and I Quilt Shop where I was picking up my entry from their annual quilt challenge.  In keeping with their third anniversary, it was a 3D challenge.  We were given a challenge fabric that had to appear in the quilt top, and there had to be 3D elements in the quilt.

I decided to do some faux cathedral window blocks, with 3D flowers in the centre, and a piped binding.

Of course, I then proceeded to quilt the c#%$# out of it, quilt it densely, as usual!

Flowers in the Cathedral

There was viewer's choice voting, and my little Flowers in the Cathedral placed second - so I was also picking up my prize - doesn't this look fun?
a book, charm pack, two spools of thread and a gift certificate which I've already spent :)

There were some wonderful entries, check out the other winners here.

In other news this week, I received my copy of The Canadian Quilter newsletter, put out quarterly by the Canadian Quilters' Association (CQA).  I was expecting to see my Flowers for Cynthia quilt in the National Juried Show program, I just wasn't expecting to see it in the newsletter, not just once, but twice!  That was a really nice surprise!
