April FMQ Challenge

I was working on my April challenge piece for SewCalGal's Freemotion quilting challenge.  Don LinnMr Quilt, was the April expert.  He showed us a method to transfer designs using netting.  Sounded interesting, so I selected a design out of my Custom Curves book by Karen McTavish.
II photocopied it and enlarged it to fit the space I wanted to fill, traced and mirror imaged it, and using Don's method, transferred it to my netting.

As I didn't have an embroidery hoop, I wasn't sure what I was going to do, until I read Sue's post - excellent idea, and I just happened to have one that would work.  (Sue's great idea was to use an Embroidery machine hoop.)  I transferred the design, heat set it, and then traced it with a washout blue pen onto my runner.

It looks faint in the picture, but it was actually quite easy to see and follow.

I'm not usually one to actually trace and follow a design, but with this runner, I wanted to try something different to fill the setting triangles.  I'm very happy with how this first triangle has turned out so will now be transferring the design to the rest of the runner.  I'll have to decide what the rest of the fills will be, but hey, that's some more free motion fun!

Happy quilting!
