- the Waverunner I made, oh so long ago based on a tutorial from Victoria / Bumblebeans. (so long ago, the tutorial is no longer available on her site!) Looks like it would be a good candidate for a nice overall quilting job, right? Somewhere along the way I decided that those orange pieces were just crying out to have pebbles quilted in them, what, you hear them too? Okay, so I'll do pebbles in them and then a nice easy all-over for the rest. What - now the green pieces are feeling left out? Okay, some ribbon candy for them. Before I knew it I had a whole cacophony of screams for custom quilting. I must be mad, as I have been listening to them all!
Every colour family is getting a different quilting design - sometimes it is every colour. I figure I'm about 2/3 done, and it may not be done by the end of the second quarter, but progress is being made! It's a darn good thing I like to practice my FMQ!
In an effort to preserve my sanity - and give me a break from the quilting, I have been busy with other projects as well. Sometime ago, I wrote up a tutorial for a Disappearing 4Patch with a Twist. I finally got around to making something other than potholders! I grabbed 4 flannel FQ, cut

Well, what can you do?....the quilt is telling you what it wants...just must obey! :-)
I am rather partial to a wide variety of quilt lines on quilts.....keeps the viewer engaged and keeps the quilter from becoming bored with repetition

They all have their place. The noisy, the quiet, the circular and the straight. There is a lot of grumbling in my studio as I try to sort and start! Pick me!!!! lol

Beauties, both of them! You know as much as I love FMQ (other people's because I just am not good at this) and the interest that it adds to a quilt, I love straight-line and stitch-in-the-ditch, too, for the way it features the quilt pattern.

That flannel quilt is really cute! The straight line quilting suits it very well. And belated congratulations on your win at Quilt Canada in Penticton! You definitely deserved it. My local guild (Lethbridge) will be hosting that show in 2015 and I sort of have a goal of trying to get a quilt in that show. I'm nervous already though! Do you have any pointers? :)

Love that top quilt! If every colour family needs its own quilting pattern maybe you'll have to make a really really monochromatic quilt so you can do a big, loose, easy quilting design?!
Sometimes when they talk to you, it leads to trouble. LOL It is looking great.

Ingenious way you have quilted both of those quilts. Nice to hear the new Pfaff is working out well for you.
I would like to make a full size quilt with the pattern you used for the baby quilt with the flannel fabric....the D4P with a Twist. I am confused tho by your comment that you used 4 different fat quarters and cut 4 squares from each. Aren't FQs measured 18 x 22? Were your blocks not 10" squares? I just love your work and just love this block. Pat
Hi PghPat. Sorry, you are a 'NoReply" blogger, so I will post my answer here - hope you get it! The joys of our Canadian FQ - they are a FQ of a meter cut, so they measure 20x22. I did end up with a sliver under 10" square on a couple of the blocks after I squared up the FQ, but I was able to make it work. The joy of this pattern is that you could decide to do it with 8.5" or 9" squares, getting 4 out of your FQ, and the end result will still be fabulous! Good luck with you quilt
