disappointment

I've been caught before, so I always make a point of pre-washing any red fabric that comes through my door.  In fact with this quilt, I re-washed the yardage just to be sure.  I don't wash pre-cuts - I've had bad experience with them shrinking and distorting as a result of being pre-washed.  This quilt top that I showed a few days ago, which had a lovely white with red polka dot border around the heart now has a not so lovely splotchy pink with red polka dot border.  :( There was one red charm square used in making that heart that caused the grief, even though I had thrown in two colour catchers with this little quilt to try and ensure that any stray colour would not be transferred to the white of the quilt.

and I'd even put a lovely bias cut gingham binding on it

Live and learn - there will be no more pre-cut reds of any type going in a quilt that contains white without prewashing or colour fast checking them.

Happy quilting!

Hi I can feel your disappointment, if you have a look over at this blog this lady fixed it with some special cloths.

You poor thing. there are supposed to be lots of things on the market to fix this, but it all depends on whether it is bad enough to take the risk.

Oh no...and it is such a sweet quilt. :( I have had friends report that they washed again with more color catchers and it helped.

So pretty, what a disappointment. Red is a real killer for bleeding.

Oh, dear! Try some Didi7 - works on almost everything to remove unwanted color - certainly can't lose!

Oh dear, such a shame. Did you manage to solve the problem?

It is so disappointing when that happens. I don't dare wash the first quilt I ever made because I had no idea about pre-washing - and although it is in regular use and really needs washing, I don't want to ruin it.
I love your fmq on your star quilts - I think it really makes them.
