Ruler work

I'm linking this post up to Amy's - Free Motion Monday Quilting Adventure - Using Rulers

I purchased a 6" curved ruler from Accents in Design a while back (a couple of years to be honest!) and have played a little bit with it, but am hoping to do a lot more.  I like it so much, though, I've just purchased several more rulers that will be on their way to me soon.  Really looking forward to some playtime with them.

In order to be able to use them with my Mega Quilter, I purchased the Janome Free Motion Frame Quilting Feet set for 1600P from Sundrop Textiles Inc., a local Janome dealer.  This setup works wonderfully on the Mega Quilter, (which is in fact a Janome 1600) which I have in a table and not on a frame.

So what have I done with this setup?  not a lot that I've taken pictures of, apparently!  The Tempest has borders done with curved crosshatching

an early attempt with the foot - a little rough on the edges
end of the bobbin

and before I got the ruler toe, I cheated and used the curved ruler to draw lines which I then free motion quilted.

But even with this little bit, I have so many ideas and places I want to use the curved cross hatching.  And well the other rulers will just be fun!

How about you?  have you done any ruler work?

Happy quilting!

I have no idea what ruler work entails. Any chance you can do a post on your set up for your machine and maybe with a ruler? Inquiring minds and all that! It does look wonderful. :)

Yes, this inquiring mind would like to know what ruler work means, and what does that foot look like anyway?

i sort of understand what ruler work is, I just don't know how to actually manage the ruler and fabric and....you know.
Your FMQ with curves is so gorgeous.

I really don't know what ruler work is - seems to contradict the term Free Motion Quilting somehow. Your curved cross hatching looks fantastic though, another dimension added to your quilts.

I have used a ruler, long ago when I had my table set up, but you know me, I mostly just scribble! Gorgeous arches, though.
